Smile Like You Mean It

Dwight Schrute: "In the wild, there is no health care. In the wild, health care is, "Ow, I hurt my leg. I can't run. A lion eats me and I'm dead." Well, I'm not dead. I'm the lion, you're dead. "

Why is it that i start with a quote from the office?
Seriously? are you seriously asking me that question...are you crazy? have you seen the show? its the sinlge most awesomest show ever! and for all those out there who doubt this statement, and just dont find it funny..i will quote the words of a very wise friend [
who i shall name 'Scots Tott'*,] and say.."you have to understand the charecters'..i would laugh at her, but i KNOW WHAT this Tott means!

The Office has to be one of the funniest shows iv seen in a loooong loong time! And you just have to watch it to realize how funny it really is..How i Met Your Mother # 2 on my list(in my head) of the decades funniest shows on tv. Barney makes the show, pity that doogie howser turned out to be gay, not that im into blonde scrawny types, but for those that are, my heart goes out to you!

Big Bang Theory, another funny comedy introduced to me by that same little Tott , a show about something different then just friends living together, falling in love and boozing up and doing stupid things...in this show theres a TWIST- its a show about all of the above, but with GEEKS! heh before you rule it out-consider once, its good!
3rd Rock from the Sun, a show about 4 Aliens who come and try to blend in on earth as a Family. Funny Ha-Ha comedy, perfectly quirky and cliche'd-Loved it! Will & Grace The most popular, gay-themed series, and the funny thing is yes will and grace are funny, but the two charecters that steal teh show are JAck and Karen!!! they are probably the two most hilarious charecters written and acted out!!! shear Brilliance!
Sex and the City This one is both an entertainer and a guide to life, love and relationships! whats not to like in this show? yes guys dont liek it much..but i can bet ANY guy ANYTHING if they sit through 3 episodes they will most definitly end up watching the entire season...Any bets?! scared? huh! haha

Id also like to mention some of the Brit comedies i LOVED..(i love brit humour-not all-but the right ones can make ur sides split)
Fawlty Towers..who hasnt seen this? the Tall lanky brush moustached guy half screaming his lines, his non-chalant wife half singing her lines and the staff made up of fools all trying to run a BnB(bed and breakfast)..not very subtle humour..but then what can you expect from '70s Tv?
My Family Something iv been watching since the past year..started watching it out of boredom, and my newfound obsession with BBC entertainment..ended up loving the witty humour and overall comical parody of the dysfunctional nuclear family system in todays world!
Two Pints of Lager, and a packet of Crisps, Introduced to this RANDOM show late one night in london by my uber-cool uncle, i instantly fellin love after 2 episodes..its sort of like the british version of friends(on the surface) but it much much more Crude, dirty, raunchy, etc. Its a show about 5 friends and their love, sex booze-filled pub Adventures..It can even be called a dramatic comedy with lots of ups-and-downs and every episode ending with a dramatic something happening! BUt by far teh funniest charecter in the show is Louise! you have to see it to understand what im talking about!
Do i need to metnion why i would also add Friends, SNL(Saturday Night Live), That 70's Show and Southpark in this post? Need any explanations? no? good!
if you do, speak your mind or forever hold your peace!

Peace!
* A (clever) Pseudonym for a friend who i wanted to mention in the post, but is too shy..hence the pseudonym..which i felt is appropriate for her!

Favorite On-screen Couples

"I like to feel his eyes on me when I look away..." -Before Sunrise

TV and Movies, ruin it for us..from a very young age, they show us things that are never really there in real life..well not for everyone(maybe that ONE couple in 50 gets it)
But i thought id share all those couples and lvoe stories that turned me into what i am today..a dreamer, wanting, yearning, desperatly craving..all that they have..

Dharma & Greg.. a couple who got married after their first date, even though they were complete opposites. Its the perfect blend of the typical cliche's of 'love at first sight'and 'opposites attract', but this one is different because its comedy with intelligence adn their checmistry on-screen makes you WANT THAT.

Chuck & Sarah Walker..Another very cute couple, who dont actually become a couple till, well season 3(spoiler) and before that its two seasons of chemistry, pretend-dating, and overall puppy love(on chucks part) and what i love about the show more is, the girl-for once-is teh super spy and kicks ass.

Em & James..If you havnt seen the movie Adventureland, youl probably be lost. maybe its just me, maybe i love cliche's but this is the typical, bad girl, in a complicated relationship, but has a slight thing for the goody-two-shoes boy and in teh end, they get together. I felt the last scene when they do finally get together, profess their love for one another, is probably the best cliche'd scene iv seen in recent, romance movies.

Noah & Allie..im not even going to start to explain this couple..all im going to say is..The Notebook. 'nuff said.

Lorali & Luke..from Gilmore Girls..maybe its more that i love the show more then the couple, because the show makes the couple..and mind you im talking about the mum's relationship with Diner-man. Its got its ups and downs, but its how he is with her. she is neurotic and talks too much and he is cool calm and pure Alpha Male, with this sensitive core, that makes her dinner, genuinly loves her daughter and is THERE for her when her father has a stroke..its beautiful, and exactly what i want in my future husband.

Leonard & Penny..watch Big Bang Theory and ul know why..its geek meets hot girl, geek tries and tries and finally gets girl.

Buffy & Angel..again loved the show..loved the girl kicking vampire ass and then making out with cute vampire.

Serena & Dan..i know most people like blair and chuck, but i loved serena and dan in season 1..after season 1 the show lost its charm too..dont you think? Them sneaking kisses at school, holding hands, looking at each other the way they did..and i think it brought a little extra ummph that they were dating in real life too..just bring moreon-screen chemistry..
dont you think?

Mushaboom..mm..!

Blaxploitation

I came across something very interesting, and as usual, i assumed that not alot of other people out there would know about it either (since i believe the world revolves around me, and what i do, they do-hahah no im kidding)

Blaxploitation: Film genre originating from the U.S in the 70's when many exploitation films were made to target an audience of Urban Black people. (wiki)

Basically in other words, its movies, tv shows, etc. racist-ly, purely based on all things African American-black. But see its not racist since, its black people acting like black people, directed by black people, about the culture of black people...makes sense!
i mean if other people can make movies/tv shows based on their own popular culture, then why cant black people..and considering, in the last 10-20 years(or more) black culture is the coolest of cool's of all culture..am i right?
Its litrally embedded itself into all the other cultures..dance,music, vandalism(i know thats not cultural(doesnt define a society) but its also in a very racist generalization attached directly to the african americans)

Starting in 1965, with movies like,
Guess whose coming to dinner, Sidney Poitier paved the road for African Americans penetrating the predominantly white culture in movies, and sending a message that the black and white cultures CAN Cross paths.
This helped open doors that let other Black actors, composers, musicians come out and work side by side with the white culture, bringing with them their own touch of the GREAT talent AND a new age of movies and music with strong 'Political meaning'. Other artists like
Funkadelic, James brown, Sly's multiracial Family Stone, etc. all composed music with serious political messages and the RnB charts popularity showed that the people liked it.

Then by the 1970's Other famous Black talent emerged, with
Bill Cosby, Richard Pryo, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, etc. Movies which proved predominantly focussing on the Black Culture, featuring soundtracks of Funk, Soul, Rap, etc. and starring mostly Black actors, target marketing to a black audience were soon made commercial. The subject matter in these movies, was of interest to the Black people, portraying their African American culture..

..BUT as usual, since human beings tend to be so judgemental and sensitive, such films were accused of stereo typing the black population, especially with content of
pimps, drugs, dealers, etc.
Speaking of pimps, drugs and BIG hair, if you havnt ever come across any blaxploitation movie-firstly kill yourself secondly here are some suggestions, of the kinds you can watch.. (mostly funny, i put an asterix next to the REALLY good ones)
Foxy Brown
Pootie Tang *
UnderCover Brother *
Dr. Black and MR. Hyde
Blacula (dont laugh-its actually a movie, i googled it)
You want the serious stuff, watch Hero Ain't nothing but a Sandwich, (a movie about a 13 year olds drug addiction and how his mother and her boyfriend help him fight it)

..TO Be Continued*

the Tudors

One of my all time fav (recent) tv shows - THE TUDORS.

Its a drama based on the life and wives of Henry the eighth..
its not the best documentary based on the 17th century king and some of the facts have been twisted to fit the dramatic nature of the show, but cmon..if u want to see an accurate documentary, turn on the History channel..this is a mix of politics, love, war, sex, infedelity, beautiful people, unimaginable luxourious living and beautifully twisted facts all mashed up into one hell of an entertaining series.
I wont lie, i started watching it because of one of the charecters on the show, Henry's best friend Duke of Suffolk (Henry Caville) who is deliciously gorgeous..but i swear to you, i was HOOKED (in the true sense of the word) after the 3rd episode.
Great sets, language(im guessing) is pretty accurate, acting is GREAT in some roles(Queen Kathrine of Aragon; Anne Bolyn) but falls a little short in the case of the extras-who mostly look like jesters posing at Madam Tussauds, as wax statues in the background.

Ofcorse we all the know the storyline-Henry and his wives who he unceremoniously beheaded/killed/generally was very mean to ..but this goes into detail of the religious, political sexual nature of the times(exagerated ofcourse-otherwise it wouldnt be fun).
And the best part, esp if your like me and LOVE tv series, is the one hour long episodes..:)

It takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions...some of mine?
Started with attraction-bordering on obsession of Charles(Duke of Suffolk);
Hate and surprise at the shockingly shallow, selfish and ego-centric nature of king Henry; my heart went out toQueen Kathrine as her life shook and shattered before her; and then a weird sense of amusement and curiosity at the evil ways of Anne bolyn(she was probably one of my fav charecters in the series..
The rest..
Well i suggest you watch it and share ur thoughts on it with me.

..Mushaboom*
