'Coz It Makes You Want To Moooooove!

Summers over, but im still basking in the summer-song glory!
If you like what you hear, hit me up so we can chat more music! :)
Dance Dance like its the Last Last night of your Life Life-->
(headsup: song titles/artists in red)

  • Usher- Dj got us fallin' in Love.. heeees back!
  • Chromeo- Fancy Footwork..the song was elevated and put on the scene with Step Up 3D
  • Danny Byrd- ill Behaviour.. dubstep- Caution: not everybody's cup of tea (before you start hating on my taste in music)
  • Duck Sauce- Barbra Streisand..don't be fooled by the lack of vocals, very catchy tune!
  • Tensnake- Coma Cat.. another one with minimal vocal, but great sound! A very summer-in-ibiza-festival song
  • Fake Blood- I think i like it./.Fix your Accent.. this one is a double feature! I give you two songs from the same artist coz i liked them so much! (you might not, but fingers crossed) Infused in a set by a dj at a festival/club these songs would blow your mind..i guess you just have to close your eyes and let your imagination run wild (as i do mine) Clever, minimalistic vocals and great mooovin' beats!
  • Cee-Lo- Forget you.. From the genius behind Gnarles Barkley, one of the most upbeat-makes you happy-but actually quite a bitter song haha!
  • The Ting Tings- Hands..If this song doesn't make you bob your head with the beat..change my name!
  • Scissor Sisters- Any which way.. because you can never have enough of the scissor sisters :)
  • Kelly Rowland-Forever and a Day.. i am not embarassed to say that Destinys Child had some serious talent, and not all of it was in Beyonce, no matter how much her dad insists! The beat of this song makes you want to move!
  • Kesha- Take it Off.. Now i am ashamed to say i like this song..im not a big fan of Kesha or most mainstream music..DONT even talk to me about Beiber(my head might explode, and not in a good way) but this song..somehow, i like!
  • Basement Jaxx ft. Paloma Faith- Whats a girl gotta do..a combo that not only brings great leg shakin' booty poppin' but a voice thats so retro its perfect for the Basement Jaxx sound.
  • Calvin Harris- Acceptable in the 80's.. Since we are on the topic of retro! Calvin Harris always bring some great tunage..i got love for you Calvin!
  • Example- Wont go quietly.. this little Brit is my fav these days, exploding on the scene with hit after hit! You might recognize him from 'KickStarts'- my Summer 2010 Tune!
(check out his 'Last one standing' as well)
  • Monarchy- Love get out of my way.. i can see myself dancing to this in my room, can you?!
  • Mark Ronson and the Businss Int'l- The Bike Song.. crazy song titles and even crazier melodies..but they work! Remember Bang Bang Bang? (suggestion: give it more then one listen, ul like it better)
  • Swedish house Mafia ft. Tinie Tempah- Miami to Ibiza.. I have become a HUGE fan of Swedish house mafia after their 'One' ft. Pharrell..and this one doesnt disappoint!
  • Temper Trap- Sweet Disposition(Alan wilkis remix).. Remeber this? soundtrack to 500 days of Summer..well this is a whole new fresh take on it, with leaving all the greatness in the song intact! brilliant opening drum beat that continues throughout becoming the pulse of the song, with just the right amount of techno tuning! Best remix iv heard for this song so far!
  • Fenech Solar- Lies.. not the strongest lyrically..but then again most good songs arn't :p ('your tellin me sweet lies sleepin with everythin'.. convinced?!)
  • The Wombats- Tokyo(vampires & wolves).. Very upbeat everything! vocals, drums, guitars, etc. fromt the boys who brought you 'Lets dance to joy division'
  • Dirty South ft. Rudy- Phasing.. another great festival song
  • Lissie- Cuckoo.. new breakout singer songwriter..best heard live, because i believe she sounds better live! Check out her 'When im Alone' live on youtube. I like her for her lyrics-very talented! (Fell in love with being defiant, in a pickup truck that roar like a lion)
  • Labrinth- Let the Sun Shine.. cheesy but makes you smile, every time!
  • Plain White T's- Rhythm of Love.. doesnt fit in the dance category(the pattern iv been following throughout this post-so far) But its got great rhythm..take special notice to the drum beat! cheezy but totally gets stuck in your head!

(some rock..because you can never have enough of that!)

  • Pendulum- The Island.. its actually in two parts, but i think ul be good with part 1.. and again is more of an acquired taste..a sleeping taste which has recently awoken in me (if that makes any sense to you)
  • Funeral Party- Just Because.. Also check out their previous NYC moves to the sound of LA beats.
  • 30 Seconds to Mars- Closer to the Edge..Check out the Video, you'l know why i like them!
  • Paramore- Careful.. this band just proves to be more and more awesome, with a powerhouse for a lead singer!
  • Biffy Clyro- God and Satan.. Great lyrics!
  • Kings of Leon- Radioactive...Saved the BEST for last, their newest single from their new album..Although id like to give special mention to 'Fans' probably one of the best songs!

Joss Stone

"A car this fine don't pass your way everyday
Don't cha wanna ride baby"

Jocelyn Eve Stoker..born 11th April 1987 (i am not a stalker, just thought id get some facts before i start on how im in love with her songs)

Yes she is as old as me..but she looks MUCH MUCH older..i guess people in england and america just age faster, because culturally they face 'LIFE' alot faster then we do..we are babied and smothered and cushioned from real hard life, until we forcefully/secretly apply to college and run away abroad..our parents just dont want to let go..Whatsupwiththat?!
My dad sometimes jokingly(although sometiems i fear he's serious) says, il NEVER let u go, even after u marry your can live upstairs...creepy!

Not alot of people know about her, and those who know dont like her sound...WHYYYY i ask? WHY? She is the perfect blend of new sound, Soul, RnB and hippy culture all rolled into one..
You can see her in her live performances always running back and forth on stage barefeet, belting out strong/heavy melodies with sweet ass lyrics about love, make-ups, break-ups and taking a ride in a hummer in the summer..hehe

One of the first songs of hers that i fell in love with.."Donch'u wanna ride baby" was such a deep song with such innocent lyrics..and most of you wont agree with me on this one but YES its deep.. She is very aware of the human need to love and be loved by someone and she effortlessly sings about the need for his 'hands all over me'.. 'need you so bad'..'how he is a bad habit'..shes young, experienceing firs love, first heartbreak, etc for the first time..cheesy yes, but then what else do you expect her to be singing about? the economy going Ka-Put? how its the first black president America has ever had, and already the country is broke(courtesy of Wanda Sykes hahah)
(and now that iv made such a poor case in her favour..)

She gives Killer performances(her voice) she has SUCH heart and soul that they make you believe her love of the music is pure..shes at her BEST on stage, Barefoot mind-you(which is kinda cute), shes bubbly, friendly and ALWAYS talks to the audience telling stories of how she wrote the song, or was inspired by it..and the best part...shes not some nobody..shes been on the scene for the last 6 7 years and has had the priviledge to sing with some of music's GREATEST..

What you think im bluffing? well let me go on to throw a few names on the table to make my case stronger..
James Brown, Tom JOnes, Smokey Robinson, Melissa Ethridge, Common(yes the rapper), John Legend, Carlos Santana(The Man), Leanne Rhimes, Rob Thomas, Gladys Knight, Erykah Badu and Blondie...(no kidding)
Singing Classics like 'Take me to the river'(one of my favs), 'No woman no cry', L.O.V.E, and tributes to Aretha franklin, Live8, many many many charity concerts(she cant say no when people ask her to perform at a charity thing)

This girl is a powerhouse, known as the 'British Soul Sensation'..her music has blown me away..(and then others say shes too loud for them..what do they know)

P.S: shes not THAT commercial..I LOVE THAT! i hope she never becomes commercialized..dont want another britney on our hands..and shes still young(as am i :P) long road ahead of her..and i hope she continues to come out with GREAT music..looking fwd to it..

:)

Last Night a DJ Saved My Life..

..If music be the food of love, Play on
Give me excess of it; that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die..
Twelfth Night-William Shakespeare

Lately, i feel like iv fallen in love with music all over again..
Do you remember the first time you heard THAT song and it stuck in your head for days and you sat for those painfull 'butt-cheek numbing' hours recording it onto cassette after cassette, so you have one for the car and another for the crummy old boom box in your room.
I cant even remember THAT song, or even that far back..

I went through a bad patch, as most would call it..depression set in, i woke late, slept late, ate too much..disgusting cycle..and in all of this (i realize now) i was missing out on one of the most important things in my life..

And then i got a job..started out slow, me in a big quiet empty room with the slow hum of the AC, and the occasional babbling, from the fool in cubical in the far corner of the room.
The only thing that kept me sane, and which i soon discovered was my saving grace for not just the mundane endless work days, but my soul..

So i dedicate this post in SALUTE to the one thing that reminded me of the the last peice of the puzzle to my happiness..made me realize that i was born to love music, it runs through my veins..my heart beats with every beat of the drum..(too much-or not really enough?) hahah

Anyhoo..Last night a Dj saved my life..
but it wasnt really a Dj, more like an RJ on Fm89..my new obsession!
89 has reintroduced me to so many new and old tunes, that have brought the smile back on my face..not to mention the amount of talent there lies in that radio station..i never knew, and most dont realize..so id like to take a moment to say(or maybe spread awareness) that there is some serious talent there, that we should be proud of..from book reviews, to entertaining shows and not to mention news and facts!

my Favorite shows..coffee republic, 89 chapters and 100% Filmi
why? Because they play my kinda music and Mahvish has got to be my favorite Rj out of them all!
I would even go so far as to (boldly)say, she is me..but an older, MUCH MUCH wiser me! its amazing :)

I once read somwhere.."Finally, a good radio station sounds familiar while never failing to surprise. "
Yes they repeat alot of songs, till you cant take it anymore..Yes they tend to have too many ad breaks(but then how are they going to make money?)..and YES they provide us with entertainment all day, and Yes, if you dont like what you hear or get sick of it..you will always have the option to turn it off!

..Mushaboom* Sing, dance and Smile :)

Recent obsessions (part2)

I think i missed some of my other new fav's the other day..so here they are..

-Koop- a swedish band that caught my attention because of just one song. Litrally, thats the only song of theirs iv heard.. 'Koop Island Blues feat. Ane Brun'..
when you first hear the song you think ohh this is jazz, and then you read the groups bio on google and find out its actually in the electronic category..weird! but great song!!
-Song to DL: Koop Island Blues

-La roux- This duo have fast become one of my favorites..its like theyr reviving the 80's but with a whole new sound ..brilliant vocals, a pitch that cannot be reached by most and strangely moving robo-electro-pop..the only area which they do seem to be a little lacking is the lyrics dept. (but then again i have high standards-and i do contradict myself here a little because i sang 'im going in for the kill..im doing it for a thril'..for the longest time, facebook status and all) :P
-Songs to DL: In for the Kill; Bulletproof

-Paloma Faith- not this is energetic soulful jazz at its best..her jazzy vocals take over her songs, giving them more power and you mroe goosebumps..Dont know much about her..havnt heard her commercially either-which is great, i usually end up liking them more when theyr less commercial- but shes great! take a listen..
-Song to DL: NewYork; Stone Cold Sober

-Feist [again another old artist that i recently rediscovered]- i never thought id say this..but i like this canadian(mostly because im racist towards canadians-no im just kidding haha my friend recently moved to canada, and its been on my 'make-fun-of-list' ever since) So great new album, very romantic dinner party music.(im referring to their previous album Let it Die) More specifically im in love with one of her songs, 'Mushaboom', that was in the soundtrack to '500 Days of Summer'. i may have to start an entirely new post to talk about the love for this song :P
-Song to DL: Mushaboom

-Adele Adkins- yea shes not brand new, but shes relatively new..and shes got MAD vocals!!
powerful vocals, a soulful voice that tells great stories through her lyrics..loves it! Did i emntion she has a brit accent? tee hee
-Songs to DL: Cold shoulder; Hometown Glory; Chasing pavements

-Sara Bareilles- i fell in love with her lyrics about a year ago..saw a few of her concerts on youtube, read her blog, followed her on twitter..and then realized i think i have a crush on her(im straight) like a girl crush, ebcause shes ME! i swear..shes soo me its ridiculous! and nobody besides me would understand what im talking about..her lyrics spoke to me, like revelations from up above..i believe every word of it, because it just falls into palce and makes complete sense to me..
She and Jason Mraz kept me amused through most of 2009..
-Songs to DL: Love song; Bottle it up; Gravity; Love on the Rocks;Undertow; One sweet love

Recent Obsessions (part1)

Today, we shall discuss MY new favorite songs, and the respective people/bands who made them so awesome! I would even like to be so bold as to nominate them (yes already) for best songs out of (late) 2009 early (2010)..GREAT songs!
*Caution:yes i knwo im repetitive and iv probably talked about most of these in the last few posts..eh!

Florence and the Machine- ohhh if you havent heard them (i cannot stress enough) please go listen! The band is actually centered around Florence(vocalist) with a loosly built backing band(dont know any famous guys in it). the Name of the band..well more of a joke that florence came up with..all u need to know is, the 'band' band did not come up with together..she's the front man and she decided the name..this is not a group-i repeat, not your average group(type band).
-Songs to DL: Drumming song; Youve got the lvoe; Rabbit heart(get the album it tell you!)

Selah sue- Man can this girl sing..what i love about her is, first time i heard her i was like okay girls got a different style, she even has the pipes..but then i heard her song raggamuffin, and i was like woah! Now i will warn you, shes one of those aquired tastes, doesnt really fit into a single genre and even has the whole dark deep thing going on for her.. i like.
-Songs to DL: Raggamuffin; Valerie(amy winehouse cover)

Katy Perry- a friend of mine sent me a song (i kissed a girl) and first time i ehard it i was like..wait, fristly why would you send me this? and secondly what a typical teeny bopper song..i hated it..and i secretly loved it at the same time..but i couldnt admit that to my friend, since we have this 'ohh i discovered a good song before you' competitive thing.
ohh and about katy, i love her raw unique half scream vocals..but she could work a bit on the lyrics! but i guess its her thing-to be the rebellious controvercial singer-songwriter that she is.
-Songs to DL: i kissed a girl(tee-hee); starstruck(3oh!3's)

Kings of Leon- the lead vocalists voice just does me.
period.
HOW can you not feel anything when you hear him LIFT you..gives me goosebumps..and i think (for me atleast) gossip girl was the show that made me fall in L-O-V-E with them..
theyr perfect..musically, lyrically, vocally, sexually..haha(i like the bearded boys (although the long hair'd fellow-not so much)
-Songs to DL: omg all of them!!

Paolo Nutini- Scottish born(with a little italian blood running through his veins) and a rusty vibrating voice-that was all to make my ears stand up! hes cute(kind of-too skinny) sounds like an old man sometimes(another aquired taste i guess) but i have come to aquire it..i have fallen in love with his old man voice and harmonica backed drum-filled music..good stuff!
-Songs to DL: Pencil full of lead; last request(featured on grey's anatomy);Candy

Lily Allen- Okay i know shes not new..but i ahve rediscovered her, and iv realized i love her(and yes il be honest her accent has ALOT to do with it-im a sucker for accents)
-Songs to DL: Smile; The Fear; Who'd have known

Vampire weekend- this is known as the band to look out for..dont know that much about them..but i will dif do some research on them..all i know is so far i like the name of their band, the vocals, even the music..and i loved their song 'Horchatta'..subtle sweet and all based on an almond, rice and milk beverage..haha i still hvnt figured out the song..getting there..

Honerable mention:
Judge me all you want but i think Miley cyrus(not her tenny bopper hannah montana version) but her new 'image' shes portraying..ohh okay i admit, i like her new songs! theyr catchy okay and i like them! i dont care what anyone thinks..
Miley cyrus- Party in the U.S.A; We belong to the music(feat. Timbaland-so its automatically considered cool)
Kesha(Tic Toc) and her raw vocals are nice too..although i just saw her on the Grammy's and she talks like she sings..haha ul know what i mean if u listen to her song and then hear her talk..hehe it kept me amused for a while(I youtubed her)

(Part2)..plz scroll down read the first part first!

*..continuation

Foundations-Kate Nash
In her sweet brit accent she casually starts describing her crumbing relationship with her lover. Ridiculing each other infront of people, winding each other up..te end of a relationship but theyr both still hanging onto something..they fight like crazy but dont want to let go of one another-"my fingertips are holding onto the cracks in our foundation..and i know that i should let go but i cant.." and she sings it all without so much as raising her pitch- i mean maybe kelly clarkson or carrie underwood could learn a thing or two from her..that you dont have to rip car seats and shout out teh lyrics to get a point through!
(if you havnt heard it, download it-its brilliant)

I tried to do handstands for you-Chairlift
i think i mentioned this one in another post, sicne its a new fav of mine lately! i must admit i get a bit obsessed..this one is interesting because at first i thought it was about a girlfriend bending over backwards to please her man n he wasnt acknowleging her.."im permanently black and blue..for you"..and witht he cooing and sweet bass in teh background, i thought what a lovely song, this could be my status one day..AND THEN he sang.."I grabbed some frozen strawberries so I could ice your bruisy knees.. I got bruises on my knees for you And grass stains on my knees for you.." hahaha cmon you didnt think what i thought? well all i can say is its teh sweetest song about sex iv come across..not dirty at all, since they neevr mention the three letter dirty word haha and they even include strawberries in the mix so its love and games and SO not dirty! i love it! who knows i might still make it my status ;)
(Download it trust me its a Great song!)

Sweet Disposition-The Temper Trap
"..a moment, a love, a dream, aloud, a kiss, a cry, our rights, our wrongs, a moment, a love.."
Its actually one of the most straightforward and simple to understand songs on my list..and my early sweeping statements about not liking simple song..sorry :s but this song is beautiful..its cue in the movie trailer of '500 days of Summer' just makes the movie seem just dreamy and beautiful.
the song(combined with the lyrics) perfectly describe a relationship..and quite frankly made me want to watch the movie..which i saw and fell in love with too!
so it made me watch the movie and made me feel little tingling feelings in my stomach everytime i heard it..
sweeeeeet. i want that. all of it. NOW!

Honerable mention:
Mushaboom-Feist
if you havnt heard this song please download it-infact download all these songs..it will not dissapoint trust me.
now this song..i havnt really figured it out as yet, will have to probably google it coz im confused..but the song is great, gives me a sense of a song about two people growing old together and about everyday little things that normally one would look past as everyday happenings, but actually are milestones or memories. And thats some deep stuff right there, warm and deep. Read the lyrics and you will know what im talking about/feeling.
*dont know what a mushaboom is..but i like the word!

So far thats all i got..

Mushaboom about nothing..!
(good closing line??-doesnt make any sense-but then thats the purpose of alll of this)

More lyrics..Loving it?!!! (Part1)

*off topic but id like to dedicate this one to a friend 'Z'.. may we always listen to good music, fine wine and GREAT discussions-in that order ;) -please read it and dont tell me you dont think like me too..coz i know you do!

SO this post will consist of..songs that sound sooo sweeet with the ukelele and light bongo's playing in the background make you feel like your sitting by a camp fire on a beach watching the sunset while Jason mraz and Colbie calait are singing a soft tune...but when you listen closely you realize..theyr actually very subtly singing about some really woah big/touchy topics like sex, relationships, kinkyness etc. and not just about a girl squeeling "the party dont start till i walk in." *(although i kinda like that song too)

I'm a lyrics-lover (if that's a word-or two)
more then the music i LOVE lyrics..they have this weird effect on me..some 'Greats' can even make my stomach do swirls..and that doesn't happen often!

Let me start by saying that I'm not a big fan of songs that tell you EXACTLY what they mean in their lyrics.. i like thinking, coming up with my own conclusions, and often even hearing other peoples interpretations.
i mean i know Taylor swift is awesome, blah blah, girl with a guitar writes about everything that happens in her life, blah blah..her next song titles will consist of 'my butt itches.." and "today a mosquito flew by me "

Instead i like songs like..
Bad Romance- Lady Gaga
Im a big fan of the Gaga..shes highly entertaining(no matter what anybody says) and this song, may not have the ukelele and bongo's but in between all her "rarara's" and her "roma roma" ga ga gaa's...shes actually talking about a relationship thats not perfect, but she wants to know about every aspect of her lover's life , good and bad! its sweet, in a Gaga way!
-or then im losing it and reading too much into it and what she really wants is a bad boy! i could live with that too..

Crash into me- Dave Mathews
Seriously anyone who's heard this song thinks about sex, instantly..."come crash into me, and i come into you..in a boys dream" but its slightly deeper then that..he loves this girl so much that he thinks shes perfect in every way "Sweet, like candy to my soul" and he fell in love with her without really knowing her too well..almost prematurly, "If iv gone overboard..forgive me In my haste"
but its mostly about him fantasizing about doing her-in a nutshell!

Closer-Kings of Leon
they have got to be one of the best bands to come out of the last decade! The Vocals that quite honestly give me goosebumps and lyrics that are so deep and broody...ooohh i LOVE everything about them!
This particular song i chose because i heard somewhere that its about the love between a human and a vampire-please before you start judging me thinking im going to talk about twilight and true blood-please dont! i dont liek either-they have commercialized something that was mythically epic and sacred-it hurts.
-The song..beautifully depicts the love for a (human) girl that a vampire feels.."driven by the strangle of veins..you keep on crying, ill bleed you dry" and "..200 years of chasing taking its toll"

*...continued in next post!
